A woman and her dog were rescued from a fire at a Central Islip home on Saturday.
Officers responded to a 911 call after seeing smoke coming from the attic of a Rossmore Avenue home.
Officers were aware that an elderly woman lived in the house and was missing.
According to police, they broke down the door and entered the house, finding the 84-year-old woman on the first floor.
Officers say she didn’t even realize the attic was on fire.
The woman and her Chihuahua were both transported out of the house to safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no one was injured.
