Pickup truck carrying numerous dogs crashes in Ogunquit, 1 dog missing

A West Virginia man carrying multiple dogs fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck and crashed in Ogunquit.

How did the crash happen?

A dog is still missing after an accident in Ogunquit Wednesday morning on I-95. Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said state police responded to the crash site around 9:30 a.m. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident determined that Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driver William Funkhouser, 38, of Baker, West Virginia, had fallen asleep at the wheel. The truck swerved into the middle lane where it side-swiped a tractor-trailer before flipping over multiple times. A passenger in the van, Jonah Hose, 23, also of Baker, WV, was ejected from the vehicle. Officials say he was not wearing a seat belt. Hose suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Funkhouser and the tractor-trailer driver were not injured.

Where were the dogs?

At the time of the accident, Funkhouser was transporting 10 dogs in a steel crate located in the back of the van. One of the dogs was found dead while another was discovered walking around the scene. Seven dogs were recovered away from the crash site, as far as Highway 1 in Ogunquit Beach and Wells. The dogs were taken to a local veterinarian to be checked out.

What is the name of the missing dog?

Last I heard, a dog was on the loose. His name is Whiskey and the Ogunquit Fire Department is asking for the public’s help in locating him. The whiskey can be anywhere, but authorities are asking people to watch especially between Berwick Road and Captain Thomas Road. Anyone who thinks they have seen Whiskey is asked to contact the police or fire department.
