Family escapes fire on Shelter St., dog doesn’t

ROCHESTER, NY The Rochester Fire Department responded to 235 Shelter St. Monday evening to multiple calls reporting a house fire. The structure was a 2 ½ story house for three families.

Two adults and three children were home and everyone got out safely before firefighters arrived. The fire spread to the roof and it took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The quick reaction and actions of the firefighters limited the damage caused by the fire to a single apartment. Two other apartments suffered minimal damage. No civilians or firefighters were injured, but one dog died. The Red Cross was on site to help the occupants.

At this time, the cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature.
