When it comes to parenting, teaching kids about responsibilities can be a tough road to walk. However, a father may have taken his fatherly duties to the extreme by teaching his daughter to “be a responsible adult” by forcing her to give up her dog.
“My 16 year old daughter has a dog she bought a few months ago. Her mum and I said she could have one as long as she took care of him, paid for everything he had needed and was spending time with him,” the man said. written via Reddit, according to The mirror.
The girl “held her end of the bargain for a while and everything worked as expected,” the man continued. “She trained him in the bathroom, took him for many walks, paid his vet bills and his food – the nine yards.”
However, when the teenager’s schoolwork became more intensive and she got a part-time job to help support the dog, she was unable to spend as much time with the dog.
“She works about 25 to 30 hours a week and spends at least two hours doing her homework every night,” the father explained. “Even though her dog never came into the house and seemed fine, I felt bad for him because she wasn’t home as much as she used to be.”
He noted that he had asked his daughter to make sure she gave “more attention” to the dog, as he would have “raised countless” dogs in his life and he knows “what is needed to a healthy and obedient dog”.
“I was also worried that she wouldn’t be his alpha, which is absolutely necessary if she expected to take him with her when she moved,” he added, revealing that he finally ” put her foot down” and insisted that she bring the dog back if she “couldn’t be bothered to spend more time with him”.
“She argued with me for a long time about it, finally gave in and found a new owner for her,” he wrote. Now her daughter “goes straight to her room after work and refuses to talk to me. My wife is upset but hasn’t really chosen her side.”
In the comments, Reddit users were left baffled by the man’s post, with many suggesting the girl was doing her best to provide for her dog.
“You can’t have it both ways; make her take full responsibility for the dog, including the bills, and then force her to get rid of it. It’s her dog or it’s not and your own Admits this doesn’t sound like she was about to neglect him which would have been the only reason to insist she get rid of him,” one person wrote, adding, “Alpha stuff is also mischief/time outdoors isn’t a real reason not to be “her” dog We’ve all seen videos of soldiers or students coming home and the dogs going crazy. will blame you forever.
“It really looks like the dad never really wanted his daughter to have a pet and is looking for an excuse to get rid of the dog. She’s already chosen the nursing home to lock him up when he’s unable to take care of himself. Even though the dad ‘never comes into the house and seems fine,'” someone else commented.
