Shame on the owner of this dog. An owner cowardly left after this incident in 2016 and they are still looking for the owner of the dog.
Meech Mills, nine, was just “really sad” about his finger which is now, for the most part, missing. He had to go for finger surgery and also a series of injections. Now 15, Mills still doesn’t have his finger.
Mills was hanging from the fence of the Cheektawaga Town Park basketball court around dinnertime when a dog pulled on his leash so hard it pulled the owner as he lunged at the young boy. The pit bull mix bit the boy’s middle finger starting at his knuckle.
The woman and the dog then ran off, leaving the boy to bleed. By the time the boy and his mother arrived at Buffalo Women’s and Children’s Hospital, they were unable to reattach the finger. Following the attack, he will have to return there every two days to be vaccinated against rabies. Police believe the owner may live in the neighborhood and may have had a son who was playing in the park at the time of the attack.
According to the Buffalo News:
The owner was described as a white woman in her mid-twenties with brown hair with the ends dyed red. Amy Prieur, (the boy’s mother), believes the dog owner’s son was also on the basketball court at the time of the attack.
Dogs are allowed in the park, but only on a certain dog path that is not near the basketball court. Who is responsible if your dog bites someone? You are not always responsible. Can someone in New York sue you if your dog bites them? You can find the answers here.
